Vitamin D and Depression
60winter stores of Vitamin D
SAD in the Winter
Don't be sad in the winter...store up your Vitamin D stores in the summer. Make hay while the sun shines. That is, if you can find days with no haze in your part of the world.
We've had some pretty cool summers in Vancouver BC and in South-Western Ontario. Problem with the shorter summers is the lack of time to build up slowly (just getting a slight pink to start with, little by little every day--on the full body, meaning arms and legs).
If you've work most of the summer or avoided the sun then when winter rolls around what will you do? Where are your stores? What will you draw on?
Well, if you've depleted your stores you may find that you get the winter blues...or depression.
So find some high quality Vitamin D3 and start taking it to build up your blood levels from 35 to 80 points according to your kit, or doctor's test. And test again in 3 months and 3 months again just to satisfy yourself.
Some people think that if they're out in the sun all the time it's impossible to be low in blood levels of Vitamin D. These people tend to be the most surprised at test results.

Very informative hub! Even here in Hawaii, especially on the windward (east) side of O'ahu during the rainy season, I sometimes experience SAD symptoms. The clouds roll in just about every afternoon for a bit of rain, although it's been pretty dry this year (I think California's getting all our rain.) What about those lamps that are supposed to help, do they really?

Yes, we have had some terrible summers lately! The last was by far the worst! Last summer we had so much rain in Montreal, and I think only about 5 days were 28 Celsius or above. I'm crossing my fingers for a warm, dry, sunny summer!
