Vitamin D News

A lady wrote into the Vitamin D Council in January 2010 telling about her experiences within the mechanistic medical system with her twin boy.

Basically the story starts when the boy was two-and-a-half and he suddenly had all kinds of weird symptoms which resulted in a diagnosis of autism. It spans a couple of years. The twin girl was alright.

The mother was confined to bed rest during the last part of her pregnancy, and Dr. Cannell commented that she was likely Vitamin D deficient herself. The boy is genetically different than the girl and once he had his blood levels elevated he was as good as new. Her adventures with regular doctors were not very funny. You can find the full letter and response on the Council's site.

She noticed that his symptoms were seasonally related...he would get a load of sunshine in the summer but not enough to carry him through the winter. Winter bizarre behaviour was a major concern but also turned out to help make an intelligent deduction and find the solution.

What I got from the exchange is how very different we are from each other in our dosage requirement.

The odd finding is that Vitamin D has a profound impact on the genome and nothing else comes close to its effect. Sunshine works on wool, fur, and skin alike--and thank goodness we can get it from a supplement when we cannot quite get enough from sun alone.

Basically the Vitamin D doctor said autistic children would benefit from 2000 IUs per 25 pound weight for 6 weeks to get into a range of 80 to 100 ng/ml, have the blood level tested and adjust the dosage at that point.

The autism / vaccination connection was addressed and was pretty interesting. There seems to be division and passion on both sides (medical vs nutritional) and even these sides are intensely opinionated.

Anyway, she wrote in to tell her story and, really, a personal account telling it as it is for that person. Telling of experience is an easy way to get facts and doesn't dismiss, discount or eliminate the unique application...don't you agree we are all different?

I like this quote by Jeanette, the boy's mother: "In my opinion, the 3 minutes or so I spend each week giving him his vitamin D have been much more effective, and much less expensive, than any other treatment we have pursued."
